    I do have the original Q and use it extensively. It is simply a brilliant, versatile and very useful camera and goes with me everywhere. I do sort of cheat a bit at times, though - depending on what I am shooting, I might, in addition, take a Leica M10 or M3 with a 50 mm Summilux or a Nikon D810 with longer lenses. One way or another the Q is always with me.

    Paul are the cards that you printed off just business cards with a few images? I know Simon Murphy (how cool is he?!) had a project where he had images on postcards which I quite liked as well.

    Very enjoyable. I'm grabbing my 28mm f/2.8 prime, putting it on my almost 5 year old Z7, and going exploring! I loved your street portraits so much. I'm gutless in that regard.

    Hey Paul, do you ever use an ND filter to shoot wide-open in bright sun? I know the electronic shutter will go high enough to accommodate it, but I use a three stop ND filter on my Q3 so that I can actually get the feedback of hearing the shutter click. That’s a weird idiosyncrasy maybe, but I love using it.

    Interesting. I used to do a lot of photography back in the day with film and had my own darkroom. I fell out of it in the 80s but a couple of years ago, in an effort to rekindle my love for photography, I bought a DSLR and a selection of lenses. I had it all in a backpack but it was so heavy and cumbersome that I could never be bothered taking it out. Two days ago, before I watched this video, I sent it all off as a trade in and today I'm sitting waiting for a courier to bring my new Leica Q3. Can't wait to have a camera that I can take with me and the simplicity of not constantly swapping lenses. Great video, Thank you.

    Hey, Paul. New subscriber and I’m binging your content. Love your perspective. Keep it coming. I would second the idea of a video about your post-production to print “process” for lack of a better word. Heck, I’d even pay for a mini-online workshop about that. The thing is, and maybe this is true for a lot of your followers; your images are so compelling and emotive that it makes one think that they MUST have a monochrome sensor to achieve that feeling… and maybe you do to an extent. Man, I just dig everything you’re squeezing out of your images - helping us aspiring B&W documentarians tease more emotion out of our already captured images would be brilliant. Cheers, friend.

    Sadly, I don’t have the money for a monochrome camera so have to put up with converting to black and white. I have seen a fair few stunning images from photographers who convert to b&w though, although I understand the huge benefits to low light shooting and noise with a monochrome sensor.

  • @creative_cozmic
    @creative_cozmic 13 днів тому

    I agree totally with blown highlights and crushed blacks. Work out what detail in the image is important and where you can stray from correct exposure. Black and white correctly exposed can really show up a very flat looking image. Besides, playing around with the exposure really helps to direct people’s eyes and focus on what’s important.

    Great video Paul, I have actually watched this before but was worth a second viewing. I got exactly the experience you mentioned when I approached a Muslim gentleman sitting on a bench with 4 of his children. He was VERY suspicious at first, but by the end he was asking his kids to sit up straight and look at the camera, and when I emailed him the image I am pretty sure he liked it because he asked me for a colour copy. I had to explain that I used black and white film, so there's no colour version (although there are now AI apps that can colorise photos).

    Paul- I'm really in to monochrom images...and the Leica Q2M (used) seems to run significantly more expensive than the color Q2. Do you EDIT your images from the Q2M and do you get better edits from it? As I've seen some fabulous edits from Q2 color images? Thank you. Enjoy your videos.

    It’s a shocking to see a phone booth. In the US many pay phones have disappeared because they get vandalized. I know you use a 28mm lens. It looks like you like to capture the environment. That might explain why you don’t shoot much in portrait aspect. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

    Leica should be paying you as an ambassador Paul - those Beamish portraits are superb. I've looked at a LOT (like everything I can find on the internet) of images from the Q2M as I try and decide if I should go crazy and get one, and none seem to have the pop and wow factor you achieve with your edits. On the one hand it makes me want it more but on the other it scares me that my skills in post wont be up to getting the best from the flat RAW files? Do your 1-1 sessions cover post processing tips etc? I'm very tempted.
